Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Turbine for a Miniaturized Generator

A microgenerator based on a MEMS microturbine is being developed for the purpose of power generation.

A microgenerator based on a MEMS  microturbine is being developed for the purpose of power generation. It will  consist of a rotating turbine, planar coil stator, journal bearing and cavity. The generator will be integrated and   constructed by using a stack of five  SU-8 epoxy layers.  Dimensions of the device will be  approximately 30 x 30 x 2 mm3. The output power is expected to be a few Watts. The different parts that make up   the device are shown in the diagrams. The proposed device is still at a conceptual stage. First of all it will need to be modelled using the CAD packages ANSYS and COMSOL and then a prototype will be made in the clean room. Finally, practical testing will be undertaken to see how it behaves and compares with the predicted output parameters.
